did have an “attempt” to support Germany’s anti Nazi forces. At the same time, it did have some actions, such as sending Qi a to Europe to communicate with the US government and win us support, and providing us $30000 to crane, who was “doing important things”.

discovery and debate in Chiang Kai Shek’s diary

the first article in Chiang Kai Shek’s diary scheduled work this week on January 10, 1942 reads: “the defection of the German movement.” The next day, Article 6 in the “reservation” column of the diary said: “send Qi a to Switzerland.” On January 14, the diary said: “the president should be informed of the defection plan of the German army.” A few years ago, I followed this clue and consulted the archives of Song Ziwen in the United States, the archives of Sino German relations and other materials. Finally, I found that after Hitler came to power, especially after he launched the Second World War, many forces against Hitler gradually formed in Germany, composed of some military figures, government officials and businessmen, The purpose is to overthrow or assassinate Hitler, establish a new Germany without Nazis, and develop peaceful relations with the western world. In 1942, the three representative figures of one of the forces, crane, shaht and Thomas, contacted Qi a, the Chinese military attache to Germany, in an attempt to get through the relationship with US President Roosevelt and British Prime Minister through Chiang Kai Shek and obtain support and understanding. In the same year, Chiang Kai Shek sent Qi a as a special envoy to Europe to contact crane and others to support his action to overthrow Hitler. In 2010, I wrote a special article on historical facts and published it in Nanfang Metropolis Daily (January 28, 2010) and the third issue of Taiwan’s biography magazine that year, entitled “Amazing Secrets of Sino German relations during the war of resistance against Japan”. After the article was published, it was questioned by Professor Wang rongzu, an old friend and famous historian. He then published an article in biography to refute my article. To this end, we have successively written two articles and launched a debate. In recent years, I have found several items of information, which are supplemented to make up for the deficiency of the previous article.

a new discovery, Chiang Kai Shek asked Soviet ambassador pan Youxin to convey the news to

during the Anti Japanese War, China and the Soviet Union formed an alliance. With the outbreak of World War II, China and the Soviet Union became anti fascist allies, and the relations between the two countries became closer. In October 1942, pan Youxin, the Soviet ambassador to China, was ordered to return to China to report on his work. On October 16, Chiang Kai Shek asked pan to meet at Zeng Jiayan’s official residence in Chongqing to discuss the trade between the two countries and the joint Dushanzi oil mine. During the conversation, Chiang Kai Shek said: “in the future, the diplomatic relations between your two countries must be closer, and all negotiations between the two countries must be on the right track.” Pan also said: “as long as our two countries can be open and sincere in any matter, there are no problems that can not be solved through consultation.” As pan once mentioned that he had no “satisfactory news” to bring back, he apologized. Chiang Kai Shek immediately revealed a top secret news to Pan: a “revolution” would soon take place in the German army, and asked him to convey the top secret news to Stalin. At that time, the dialogue between the two people was as follows:

Jiang: the ambassador said that there was no good news to report to the government after returning home. I would like to take advantage of today’s farewell to the ambassador to give the best news, that is, the internal revolution in Germany is brewing and will happen soon. Although we cannot predict the period of its outbreak, if we can make efforts to promote it, it will be realized as soon as possible. Please tell this news to Mr. Stalin in person and not for other humanitarian reasons for the time being.

Pan: what is the content of the German revolution shown by the Committee seat? Can you hear it?

Jiang: This is very accurate news. The content is not known in detail, but soldiers are known to participate.

Pan: I also know that the political situation in Germany is unstable.

Jiang: political instability is easy to remedy, and the army’s participation in the revolution is dangerous.

Pan: is it caused by the rising anti war sentiment of the army?

Jiang: it’s not just anti war.

Pan: This is the best news. I’d like to tell Mr. Stalin in person. The sooner Hitler collapses, the faster our democracy will win.

since Chiang Kai Shek sent Qi a to Switzerland in January of that year, Qi a has successively informed the country of the activities of German anti Nazis since March. Therefore, what Chiang Kai Shek and pan Youxin said about the internal revolution in Germany is already brewing, which obviously refers to the plans of crane, Schacht, Thomas and others to overthrow Hitler.

on June 22, 1941, Hitler dispatched 190 divisions, 3700 tanks, 4900 aircraft, 47000 artillery and 190 warships to raid the Soviet Union in the form of Blitzkrieg in three ways according to the “Barbarosa” plan formulated in advance. On July 3 of the same year, Stalin delivered a radio speech calling on the people of the whole Soviet Union to go all out to fight Hitler fascism to the death. In the early stage, the Soviet army was unprepared and rushed to the battle. 28 divisions were completely annihilated and more than half of the personnel and weapons of 70 divisions were lost. At the end of September, the German army attacked Moscow on a large scale. In May 1942, the German army shifted its strategic focus to the southern line. In late July, he attacked Stalingrad and once broke into the urban area to start street fighting with the Soviet army. The city was in danger. At this time, Chiang Kai Shek told pan Youxin that revolution was brewing in the German army and asked him to tell Stalin that it was naturally “the best news” for the Soviet leaders and troops who were commanding the army to fight in the street with the German army. “The internal revolution in Germany is brewing and is about to take place soon. Although the outbreak period is not unexpected, if we can make efforts to promote it, it will be realized as soon as possible,” Jiang said Chiang Kai Shek’s “we” naturally includes China and Chiang Kai Shek himself. It can be seen that Chiang’s attitude towards this brewing “internal revolution in Germany with the participation of soldiers” is “efforts to promote”. This is consistent with the “plan to move the German army against the enemy” in his diary in January 1942. On November 11 of the same year, Chiang Kai Shek wrote in his diary: “tell Roosevelt about the ‘content’ and treatment policy of Germany.” In January of that year, Chiang Kai Shek said in his diary that he would inform Roosevelt of the relevant plan. Here is the second time. Roosevelt was then the president of the United States, the leader and leader of the international anti fascist frontCommander. The “content” in Jiang’s diary refers to the development of anti Nazi forces in Germany; The so-called “handling policy” should refer to the attitude and Countermeasures of the Chinese government. The diary does not mention this, but there is no problem. It should be a specific measure of “trying to promote”. Unfortunately, Jiang’s diary was too brief to disclose more details.

new discovery 2. Song Meiling informed the US government that

the Soviet Army’s resistance in Stalingrad was extremely tenacious. By the end of September 1942, although the Soviet army was confined to the narrow strip on the West Bank of the Volga River, with a depth of less than 1km, the German army could not completely occupy Stalingrad. To this end, Paulus, commander of the sixth group army of the German army, ordered a fierce attack in view of the coming cold winter. At dawn on November 19, the Soviet army began a large-scale counterattack near Stalingrad. On November 23, the Soviet Army surrounded all the sixth corps of the German army. Hitler ordered the German army to “fight until the last soldier, one shot and one bullet”, and ordered the armored heavy army group led by general Manstein to carry out rescue, but it was blocked by the Soviet army. On November 26, Chiang Kai Shek’s diary said:

Stalingrad, Russia, was liberated. Three German division commanders and above surrendered and tens of thousands of people were captured, which was an unprecedented defeat for the German army. The military headquarters and Hitler disagreed, and it was expected that there would be a day of internal collapse. If Hitler fell and before the new government of shaht and other organizations called to show the balance to ensure their German status, how would they respond?

the battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of the Soviet German war and the world anti fascist war. At that time, the battle was still in progress, but Chiang Kai Shek had learned from Qi A’s call that Hitler ordered an attack, while his generals advocated taking the defensive temporarily, disagreeing and disintegrating internally, and Hitler would fail. Chiang Kai Shek thus estimated that the anti Nazi forces in Germany such as the pro China shaht (Shahat) may take advantage of the situation to establish a new government. At that time, he will ask the Chinese government to ensure the “status” of the new government.

as early as 1941, shaht and others proposed in their conversation with Zia that Chiang Kai Shek entrust a person to contact Roosevelt and others on behalf of the German anti Nazi forces. In April and May 1942, Chiang Kai Shek called Song Meiling, who was visiting the White House at that time, and asked her to “gently explain” to Roosevelt that she could be lenient to the “new regime” after Germany’s anti Nazi forces overthrew Hitler. The report said:

it was reported that the recent Nazi internal propaganda often expressed various expressions of the recent post-war policies of Britain and the United States, which were different from the Atlantic Charter of the previous year. As a result, all German parties were deeply afraid that if they surrendered unconditionally, Britain and the United States would disarm Germany for a long time, monitor and educate, and take charge of German local administration, so as to send a group of people who were willing to overthrow Hitler as soon as possible, Both hesitated. If Britain and the United States insist on such demanding demands, the new German regime in the future will prefer to cooperate with the Soviet Union rather than become a colony of Britain and the United States. In order to promote the internal movement in Germany, this psychology can not be ignored. It is hoped that this intention will be euphemistically explained to the US government and paid attention to.

this telegram shows that according to the information, Jiang believed that after the German anti Nazi forces were worried about overthrowing Hitler’s regime, Britain and the United States still insisted on “demanding” similar to “unconditional surrender”, so they “hesitated” and had the possibility of “cooperation with the Soviet Union”. Therefore, Jiang hoped that Song Meiling would “gently explain” to the U.S. government and no longer adhere to the original conditions, So as to eliminate the concerns of German anti Nazi forces and act bravely. Whether Jiang’s analysis of British and American policies and his “psychological” judgment of German anti Nazi forces are accurate can be discussed or criticized, but his intention to “promote the internal movement in Germany” is clear.

whether Song Meiling talked to Roosevelt immediately after receiving Jiang’s telegram, there is a lack of literature, and she dare not make a rash decision. At this time, due to the victory of the Soviet army in Stalingrad, Chiang Kai Shek estimated that the period of collapse of Nazi forces was not far away, and remembered the entrustment of shaht and others. Therefore, Chiang Kai Shek again urged Song Meiling to contact the US government. On December 23, Song Meiling was talking with Harry Hopkins, Roosevelt’s personal adviser, to extensively discuss the war against Germany and the post-war policy towards the Soviet Union. At that time, Hopkins participated in all major strategic decisions between the US government, Britain and the Soviet Union. In fact, he was the second person in the White House and was known as the “shadow president”. Hopkins told Song Meiling that Germany has made great efforts to win over Japan recently. Song Meiling then took the opportunity to inquire: “can German Prussian officers use it to end the war?” Hopkins replied: “president Luo is unwilling to have any negotiations for this period.” Song Meiling’s “German Prussian officer” here refers to the anti Nazi forces in the German army such as Thomas, who are closely connected with crane and Schacht. The relevant facts can be found in Song Meiling’s “message to Chiang Kai Shek” on December 24. The anti Nazi forces in Germany are complex, and most of them are German officers or government officials. Therefore, the British and American authorities distrust them. In January 1941, Churchill instructed the British Foreign Office to “completely silence” the German resistance. What Hopkins said to Song Meiling shows that Roosevelt’s attitude is roughly the same as Churchill’s. They are determined to completely destroy Nazi Germany by force, and are not prepared to hold any negotiations or make use of any anti Nazi forces in Germany.

Professor Rong Zu first criticized Jiang Dian for “not knowing what he said”, “impractical, not knowing the details”, and boldly assumed that Song Meiling did not report this telegram to Roosevelt. He said: “whether Song Meiling conveyed it or not has not been followed, and there is no record of Roosevelt’s response. It can only be said that it has no impact.” Later, she believed that Song Meiling had much more international knowledge than Chiang Kai Shek and probably did not send this message to Roosevelt. Although I thought it inconceivable that Song Meiling did not convey such an important telegram at that time, due to insufficient information, I failed to refute it with strong evidence. Now, the discovery of Song Meiling’s telegram to Chiang Kai Shek proves that song did talk about the situation to Roosevelt’s adviser Hopkins and expressed her wish to use German anti Nazi officers to defeat Hitler and end the war. I hope professor rongzu
