in Changchun archives of Jilin Province, there are three son search reports written by Wang Fuqing to Jilin Jichang Daoyin and Changchun negotiator in 1923 during the disappearance and murder of his son Wang Xitian in Japan, requesting the government to help find the whereabouts of his son Wang Xitian. Three pages each, written in regular script, truly records a dusty past.

Wang Xitian, a famous leader of Chinese workers in Japan in the 1920s, was born in a leather shop family in qianqianbao Tun, Changchun, Jilin Province in September 1896. In 1915, with a strong desire to change the society, he crossed to Japan to study abroad. During his study in Japan, he organized and led patriotic students to hold rallies, strike classes, demonstrations or return home petitions on many occasions to protest against the traitorous acts of the domestic corrupt government and the power hegemony of Japanese imperialism over China. At the same time, Wang Xitian has also been enthusiastic about the cause of Chinese living in Japan for a long time, and called on students studying in Japan, overseas Chinese living in Japan and Japanese friendly people to generously donate money for Chinese workers and raise funds to improve their living and medical conditions. In 1922, Wang Xitian was elected president of the Chinese overseas Chinese day labor Freemasonry Association. In order to safeguard the interests of Chinese workers, he began to concentrate on the relief cause of Chinese workers and led Chinese workers in a resolute struggle against the infringement of Chinese rights and interests by Japanese capitalists. The Japanese authorities hate Wang Xitian to the bone and list him as a “socialist” and “dangerous element”.

on September 1, 1923, a strong earthquake occurred in Tokyo, Japan. The Japanese authorities took the opportunity to arrest and massacre revolutionary martyrs and Chinese workers in Japan, and white terror enveloped Tokyo. Wang Xitian was concerned about the safety of thousands of Chinese workers. On the afternoon of the earthquake, he risked the risk of aftershocks to go to various places to express condolences to his compatriots, and timely organized the “earthquake relief meeting for Japan”. On September 9, when the traffic was interrupted and the order was chaotic, Wang Xitian rode his bike alone to visit the Chinese workers in Oshima Town, far from Tokyo, despite the dissuasion of his friends. After that, he didn’t return all night. On the 10th, it came out that Wang Xitian was arrested by the Japanese military and police. However, the Japanese authorities later announced that Wang Xitian had been released on the 12th. Since then, he has not heard from. After

Wang Xitian disappeared, his father Wang Fuqing was extremely anxious. He wrote to Jilin Jichang Daoyin and Changchun negotiator three times and asked the government to help find his son’s whereabouts. His feeling of “deep love for his son and broken heart” jumped on the paper and made people sigh. The general situation of Wang Xitian before and after his disappearance in Japan can be learned from the relevant documents and files of Wang Fuqing and Jilin Jichang Daoyin and Changchun negotiator about the search for Wang Xitian.

Wang Fuqing wrote in his report on November 25, 1923: “Minzi Wang Xitian studied in Japan for nine years. Chen was elected president of the overseas Chinese Japan labor Masonic Association in Japan last September, so he quit the horse of Shushan to serve the society”. After the Tokyo earthquake, Wang Fuqing was very worried about the safety of her son Wang Xitian. After receiving “two postcards from Iraq on September 2 and 8, she began to realize that Xitian had not suffered a disaster in the East and felt a little relieved”. But later, he received a letter from his friend from Japan saying, “Yi took a transfer to Oshima town on September 9 to check the workers of overseas Chinese and Japan. As soon as he left, there was no news.”. It is speculated that his son “may be in danger of accidents, or in danger of accidents, or living in a remote country, unable to transport and telecommunications.” Although a friend has been asked to ask the Consul General of Japan to look for it in Japan, there is no news. Because “there is no way to inquire across the ocean”, he begged the government to “call the Chinese envoy in Japan to investigate on his behalf, or negotiate with the Japanese authorities nearby, and earnestly investigate his whereabouts and save his life.” On December 2, 1923, Jilin Jichang Daoyin and Changchun negotiator replied to Wang Jinqing: “previously, it was reported that the Ministry of foreign affairs had been requested. According to his reply, Wang Xitian was wandering on the road after the disaster. After being taken over by the police, he thought there was no need for special protection. When the land army was sent to a safe area, it was right. After being released, his whereabouts were unknown and is now under strict investigation.” On the same day, Wang Jinqing’s friend also learned from the telegram sent back by the Japanese foreign minister to the Consul General in Japan that Wang Xitian was taken away by the police outside Tokyo on September 9 last year and taken into custody in the Guihu police station. On September 12, he was handed over to the army and released. Later, his whereabouts were unknown.

after learning the news, Wang Fuqing again asked Jilin Jichang Daoyin and Changchun negotiator to sympathize with him for his “deep love for his son and no way to mourn Chen” and negotiate with the Japanese side as soon as possible, so as to save his son Wang Xitian and return as soon as possible, He also questioned the Japanese behavior: “the order of the Tokyo earthquake was disordered, but in early September, when hitian was taken into custody at the turtle police station without any reason for being killed. At that time, martial law had been issued. Hitian Jing (unexpectedly) had been handed over to the army, and there was no harm. However, why not hand over the army to the Chinese Consul to deliver it to his country or to a safe place.”

the news of Wang Xitian’s disappearance has aroused strong repercussions in the society. Although the Japanese government has repeatedly blocked the news and concealed the truth, domestic and foreign newspapers continue to disclose the news of the Japanese military and police’s wanton massacre of Chinese workers and Wang Xitian’s disappearance and murder. Both Jilin’s Dadong daily and Shanghai’s newspapers reported the killing of Wang Xitian in a prominent position. People from all walks of life protested against the crimes of the Japanese authorities. Wang Peiqing thought his son was more dangerous than good. On December 17, 1923, He sent a letter to the government for the third time: “the people have received a letter from Tokyo and read the news of China. All of them have found that Wang Xitian, the son of the people, had not got up at dawn on the 9th and 10th. He was suddenly tied up by the Japanese police and sent to the Guihu police station. Therefore, the party was unknown and was sincerely afraid of being poisoned by the Japanese side.” “The people are worried and helpless, so they have to pray again that Lord Xian will claim more from Japan. Please call the Japanese authorities as soon as possible and try their best to investigate. It is still until death, and the power of bothering the Constitution can be saved.”

under the strong demand and protest of Wang pengliao and all sectors of society, the Chinese government made representations to Japan through diplomatic channels and sent officials to Japan to investigate the killing of Wang Xitian and the truth. However, the weak country has no diplomacy. Although China has a large number of supporting materials to confirm that Wang Xitian was killed by others and sent a note to the Japanese envoy in China to lodge a strong protest, the Chinese government is still unable to understand the disappearance of Wang Xitian because the Japanese authorities have adopted a tough covert policy towards China’s protest noteThe truth. On March 19, 1924, the document of Jilin Jichang Daoyin and Changchun negotiator on “Wang Xitian’s disappearance due to the disaster” still said: “after strict urging the Japanese government to try to find it, there should be no whereabouts so far. According to the report of the Japanese Embassy, there is no definite loss.” “The government pays great attention to the massacre of overseas Chinese by Japanese people and has sent a note to the Japanese envoy in Beijing asking for punishment of the murderer and compensation for his family members.” And “made serious representations to the Japanese government”. Since then, Wang Xitian has been included in the list of missing persons, and the truth of his murder has been deliberately covered up by the Japanese authorities.

the news of Wang Xitian’s death was not confirmed until the 1970s: on September 9, 1923, Wang Xitian was arrested by the Japanese authorities on his way to Dadao Town, a suburb of Beijing. In the early morning of the 12th, the gendarmerie armed with a rifle took the bound Wang Xitian out of the police station. On the way to the military camp, they stabbed Wang Xitian with a bayonet and threw him into the fire. Facts have proved that Wang Xitian’s death was a serious Anti China murder case conspired by the Japanese gendarmerie, police and army.

Wang Xitian, the heroic leader of Chinese workers, sacrificed his precious life for the relief cause of Chinese workers at the age of 27.
